Toefl Preparation Course

Toefl Preparation Course

Most United States universities require the Test of English as Foreign Language (TOEFL). This test was designed for individuals who have immigrated or have traveled to the United States from other countries, and the test serves to allow such individuals to demonstrate their ability to speak, listen, read, and write in English. To prepare for this test, and to get the best score possible, many students register for their TOEFL preparation course at Language Scholastics where the best TOEFL instructors and tutors work.

What is TOEFL?

As you prepare for your TOEFL test, you will need to keep in mind that there are two different formats of the test, and the format of test that you take will depend on where you take it. Language Scholastics (LASC) offers the TOEFL iBT test. What is TOEFL iBT? iBT stands for "Internet-based test." The other format of the TOEFL test is the TOEFL PBT. PBT stands for "paper-based test," and these kinds of tests are administered in places where no Internet is present. Also, Language Scholastics' TOEFL preparation course is online-based.

How Long Does the TOEFL Test Take to Finish?

The TOEFL test is broken down into three distinct sections as follows:

Section 1: Reading

The Reading section of the TOEFL test typically lasts between an hour and an hour and twenty minutes. In this section, you will read a few passages from academic texts and then complete a series of questions based on the text that you have read.

Section 2: Listening

The Listening section usually lasts about an hour to an hour and a half. During this section of the TOEFL test, you will listen to lectures and classroom conversations and answer a series of questions based on the content you have listened to.

Section 3: Speaking

The Speaking section of the TOEFL test is the shortest section, usually completed in about 20 minutes or so. For this section, you will be asked to articulate your personal opinion on a familiar topic. You will speak on Reading and Listening tasks.

Section 4: Writing

The Writing section lasts for 50 minutes and only has two tasks. You will be asked to write an essay based on Reading and Listening tasks. Essentially, you will give your opinion about a top in writing.

You Need to Take a TOEFL Preparation Course First

Taking the TOEFL test does not lead to automatic college admission. Rather, the TOEFL test is considered a testament to your competency in the English language. You can always say that your TOEFL score is your English score. It's a valid instrument of measurement. Rather than simply claiming that you can speak English well or communicate well in English, your TOEFL score is proof.

Think of TOEFL as a certified process. It's recognized by industries and educational institutions. It is always an added benefit when you can back up your claims with official documentation. But before you take your TOEFL test, you should take a quality TOEFL preparation close, such as the one offered by LASC.
